Internet Safety

Technology is now integral to the lives of children and young people and is fully embedded across all aspects of daily life - both inside and outside of school. It is everybody's responsibility to teach children how to use technology safely and to teach them how to stay safe whilst online.

The internet is a powerful tool which opens up new opportunities for everyone. It covers communication, stimulates discussion, promotes creativity and allows pupils to express themselves in various ways. Children and young people should have an entitlement to safe internet access at all times.

At Derwent Vale, we take E-safety extremely seriously. We provide learning opportunities, directly and indirectly, through computing lessons, assemblies, PSHE lessons and talk times to strengthen pupil voice and to ensure our children know how to stay safe at all times.

Alongside this, staff use resources and lesson plans from the National online safety and National College websites to support the teaching of Internet safety. Parents and careers can also visit these sites via the school to access a wide range of resources and guides on how they can help keep their children safe whilst online at home and out of school.

If ever you or your child have a concern about something they see online, please remember: Speak to a trusted adult.
