Developing Cultural Capital
We strive to ensure that everybody involved in our school - children, staff, governors, parents and more - feel part of our community. One of our core principles is developing a sense of belonging so that all our children feel part of Derwent Vale and enjoy the benefits our supportive environment provides.
Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for their future success. In addition to the core skills and knowledge we teach our children, we seek to maximise learning potential so that every child participates in a wide range of rich experiences across the full breadth of the curriculum.
To ensure all our pupils have high aspirations for the future, know their strengths, have a positive attitude to how they contribute to the wider world and fully understand their value in society, we develop our pupils' cultural capital in each curriculum area in many ways. This is to ensure they appreciate and understand different cultures, live by British Values and find and follow their own passions in life based on the support and guidance we provide.
