Sporting Provision

Children at Derwent Vale have the opportunity to be involved in inter and intra school competitions within football, cricket, netball, dodgeball, athletics and tennis.

Also, they participate in mulitskills.

Derwent Vale are unique as they organise and hold the small schools gala for Workington consortium schools.

Curriculum Details

We follow the Suffolk P.E. Scheme, teaching Athletics Activities, Dance,
Games skills, Gymnastics, Outdoor & Adventurous Activities and Swimming.

Sports Funding

Sports Grant 2015-2016

Derwent Vale use funding to enhance provision eg:

  • Sports team transport

  • Resources

  • Specialist coaching

  • Swimming

  • Competitions calendar - Allerdale and St Josephs


The impact of sports funding has been evident though the following:

  • A wider range of resources has a greater impact on teaching and learning.
    We now can access all level 1 competitions.
  • It is an integral to the PE curriculum regards high quality coaching.
  • Progression to level 2 competitions.
  • Greater % of young leaders emerging.
  • With a new NC coverage - we aim for level 2/3
  • Buying into sporting clusters provides high quality competition.
  • PE co-ordinator can be released to provide training to lunch time staff
    with regards to indoor and outdoor play, sporting activities.
  • Children identified as Gifted & Talented were provided with a Chance Camp scholarship.
  • Achieving Sainsbury's School Games Silver standard
