Derwent Vale school was transported to India to learn
all about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights during
November 2012.
Everybody in the school spent the week taking part in
activities to learn about Diwali and Indian culture,
including mehndi hand painting, making tealight holders
from clay, creating Rangoli patterns, finding out about
Indian Gods and making some traditional Indian food,
including samosas!
The week ended with a fantastic Bollywood dance in the
Hall by all children in the school from Reception to
YR6, surrounded by the brilliant art work that had been
completed that week. It was standing room only as the
children's enthusiasm for Indian Week obviously rubbed
off onto family and friends who packed into the Hall to
support the children performing their dance.
