The School's Big Bird Watch

Birds, birds everywhere! All pupils at Derwent Vale were excited to take part in the RSPB Big Bird Watch in the last week of January.

Miss Nichol used her DIY expertise, ably assisted by Miss Kane, to create a fabulous bird hide, allowing the children to spend time watching and recording different bird species landing in and around the school grounds.

During the week, children made bird food, created fantastic art work, recorded information on graphs and charts and spent a long time simply staying still and watching out for birds.

As we all know, staying still can be quite tricky, but all children lived up to the challenge fantastically well.

News got out about the activities going on in school, and the News and Star sent a reporter to find out exactly what was going on!
